Le lac Baïkal, de glace et d'eau

With a depth of 1,637 meters and a length of 636 kilometers, Lake Baikal contains nearly 20% of the world's freshwater reserves.
Twenty-five million years old, Lake Baikal, this gigantic structural lake, lies on a deep rift carved into the Siberian earth. Covered for several months of the year by thick ice, Lake Baikal is an astonishing lake.
While many lakes are gradually being filled with sediment, Lake Baikal seems destined to become an ocean. While many lakes are emptying, it contains more water than all the other lakes on the planet combined.
Isolated for millions of years, it is home to a biodiversity that is unique in the world, including some species that are veritable living fossils.
It is not surprising that the inhabitants of its shores have always worshipped this exceptional lake, which some call the “Sacred Sea” and others the “Pearl of Siberia.”
