Le grand lac salé de contrastes et d'extrêmes
While in the collective imagination, lakes are synonymous with blue-tinged freshwater that flows into the ocean or rivers, this is not the case with the Great Salt Lake. The waters of this great lake, a veritable inland sea, will never reach the ocean. It is an endorheic lake, lost between mountains and a salt desert. In northern Utah, the second most arid state in the United States, the Great Salt Lake stretches 120 kilometers long and more than 40 kilometers wide. Its water is surprisingly colorful, alternating between pink and turquoise. It is nicknamed the American Dead Sea, yet every year it hosts millions of birds that stop there on their migratory routes or breed there.
